| Kashmir at the helm and still feeling alienated! | | news analysis | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 3: Jammu and Ladakh are the two regions of the state which have many grievances against New Delhi and Kashmiri leadership. Their complaints are many. They have little or no share in the governance of the state. They have little or no say in the Cabinet and Council of Ministers. They have inadequate representation in the Legislature. Their share in the vital service sector is negligible. They do not get funds needed for the infrastructural development. That Jammu has little or no say in the governance of the state could be seen from the fact that the state government didn't announce ex-gratia for the bereaved families of Martyrs Ravi Paul, Karnail Singh and others and this despite the fact that the BJP is part of the government.
And their fundamental complaint is that New Delhi has never ever respected their nationalistic outlook and that New Delhi always considered Kashmir the most important factor in the state's political situation. The fact of the mater is that both the regions stand alienated both from New Delhi and Kashmir. That's the reason the estranged people in both the regions have been demanding reorganization of the state ever since its accession with India in October 1947. As expected, New Delhi never considered their genuine demand to fulfill the Kashmiri urge to rule the state roughshod and harm the interests of Jammu and Ladakh to the extent possible.
Kashmir, which is the most prosperous region in the country, should have been most peaceful, but it was not to be. Kashmir has been posing problem after problem to New Delhi and Jammu and Ladakh. While the members of minority community in the rest of the country have no problem with the Indian Constitution and the Indian laws, Kashmiri leadership has been dismissing the Indian Constitution and the Indian laws anti-Kashmir saying these have alienated Kashmir from India. They have been criticizing New Delhi and Jammu and Ladakh on a daily-basis. They are criticizing them on the ground that they are insensitive to the sensitivities of Kashmir. They say that "Kashmir is absolutely unwilling to submit before subjugation. Which sensitivities they talk about and what do they mean by subjugation. It is the sensitivities of Jammu and Ladakh which are being outraged. It is Jammu and Ladakh which have been living under Kashmir's subjugation since 1947. They say the Kashmiri society "in pursuit of a cherished goal has suspended the important elements of day to day life, and is stoically struggling hard to survive with bare essentials". They, in fact, are demanding another communal partition of India and their objective is not just to get Kashmir out of India but the entire state of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. This will not and must not happen. For, Jammu and Kashmir State is central to the defence of the country.
New Delhi can't have two policies, one for Pakistan and another for Kashmir. The policy has to be the same. In other words, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to adopt a tough stand on Kashmiri separatism like he did in the case of Pakistan on September 28 by ordering the Army to go across the LoC and attack terror training camps and terror launch pads. There is no other way. |
