Players allege favoritism in Ranji Trophy selections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 3: Under scanner for its arbitrary working and infighting within its various factions, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is in news again, this time for alleged nepotism in selections. Recently the trials conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to select the players for the upcoming Ranji Trophy have come under sharp censure due to allegations of nepotism and favouritism by the selectors. Several players told ET that due tom factionalism within the association and total lak of accountability, the selectors were accommodating their blue eyed in the camp ignoring those who were meritorious and proven credentials. These players also alleged that since huge money was paid to the selected players by the BCCI, the entire gamut was turning out to be highly commercial. A players who had come from a peripheral district of Jammu to app[ear for the trials castigated the JKCA for its working. "JKCA gets hundreds of crores form BCCI to promote cricket in the state, but the association spends almost nothing for the purpose and most of the money is siphoned off by the office bearers" he said. He further stated that the Association is headed by the sports minister himself and he has done little to help young and talented cricketers. "He could do nothing for the cricketers being president of the JKCA, what can be expected of him by the players of other games?" he questioned. He said that the Minister had no interest in promoting sports and had no time to supervise the activities of the JKCA. "He should closely monitor the activities of the office bearers of the JKCA and ensure transparent selection in all age groups" he said. Despite repeated attempts, Secretary JKCA couldn't be connected for his comments. |
