Jittery Pak intensifies firing along LoC, 5 injured, many shops including oil depot on fire

Poonch/Jammu, Oct 3: Intensifying its counter reaction to surgical strike , Pakistan troops today violated ceasefire four times by resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing on Indian Army posts and civilian areas along LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving five civilians injured and several shops including a security oil depot ablaze.
According to reports, Pakistan resorted to firing and shelling in Shahpur, Krishnagati, Mandi and Sabzian sectors in Poonch district resulting injuries to five persons and damaging shops in civilian area while in the retaliatory action by the Indian Army one Pakistani Post Twiven1 reportedly has been destroyed.
"The firing and shelling is going on in various areas along the LoC," official sources said, adding intermittent firing is on till last report came in." Sources said the firing started at around 1045 hours and is going on.
"Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Mandi and Sabzian sectors of Poonch district from 1345 hours today," Defence spokesman Col Manish Mehta said.
"Pakistan targeted forward Indian positions with 120 mm, 80 mm mortar bombs, automatic weapons and small arms," he said, adding the exchanges are going on.
"Earlier, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Shahpur sub sector of Poonch using small arms, automatic and mortar bombs, the spokesman said.
"It has appropriately been responded to, we have given them befitting reply. The ceasefire violation is still on," he said.
Pakistan troops resorted to brief firing in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district around 0100 hours, officials said.
"In shelling, five people were injured in Shahpur Kerni and Saujian sectors, police officials said, adding the injured have been hospitalized.
The injured have been identified as Refeela Bi (18) and Gulam Mohmmad of Shahpur, Shah Begum (35 years) of Qasba, Hafiza Akhtar (17 Years) of Gangrian and 10 year Usma.
A Police officer said that one mortar shell landed in a security force camp in Gangrian in Saujian and it hit oil containers resulting in fire.
In the fire several shops were gutted, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injury to any one in the fire.
Sharing details sources said, "The firing begun at 1:35 pm in Sabjiyan sector in which two girls were injured. "The injured girls have been identified as Uzma Akhter and Hafiza Akhter both resident of Gaggrain, in Sabjiyan of Poonch", sources said, and added a small market at Galli Midaar also gutted in firing from Pakistan.
"11 shops have been fully gutted in the firing, while a fuel depot of BSF in Galli Midaan area gutted," sources added.
Sources further said that in Shahpur sector three persons including two women were injured. "All the injured have been hospitalized in District Hospital by the locals", they added.
Pertinently there have been four ceasefire violations today and 10 since the surgical strikes carried out by Indian Army on the intervening night of September 28 and 29.
Earlier on October 1, Pakistani troops had shelled Indian posts and civilian areas with mortar bombs, RPGS and HMGS amid small arms firing along LoC in Poonch sector.
On September 30, Pakistani troops had opened fire from small arms along the LoC in Pallanwala, Chaprial and Samnam areas of Akhnoor sector of Jammu district.
On September 29, Pakistan troops had resorted to firing in Balnoie area of Mendhar sector,
The Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire on September 28 by opening fire on Indian army posts along LoC in Sabzian area Poonch sector.
On September 6, Pakistani troops had fired on Army posts along the LoC in Pooch sector.
Pakistani troops had also violated the ceasefire on September 2 by firing on forward army posts along the LoC in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district.
If recalled here atleast 16 civilians were killed and 71 others injured in 405 incidents of cross-border firing by Pakistan in 2015.
