NSF continue protest in JU, urge Governor to look into matter

Jammu, Oct 3: Activists of National Secular Forum University Unit held a protest demonstration in front of Central Library and gheraoed the office of Central Library for not fulfilling their chart of demands.
The protesting NSF activists in a large number led by Reshikesh Rana, NSF JU President were shouting slogans against the University authorities, Incharge Central Library for not taking note of their demands and maintaining stoic silence over the entire matter.
The demonstration continued for two hours. They condemned the Vice-Chancellor for prompting students to adopt the agitation path instead of redressing their grievances.
Addressing the gathering here today, University President Rishikesh Rana said that working of Jammu University is worsening day by day and the authorities are taking the things for granted which has added to problems of students a lot. He said that University is minting money from the students by hook or crook without providing them requisite facilities.
He also said that lots of funds are provided for the development works but no such development is seen on grounds. The officials of the University are enjoying every facility and students are deprived of it, he added.
Earlier, the agitating students surrounded office of Central Library for the non availability of facilities for about one hour.
The protest lasted for over two hour during which, NSF University President Rana has taken a strong note of the non availability of facilities being provided by the Jammu University in the Library where hundreds of students are preparing for various competitive exams. He said that where Fan which are provided inside the Central Library are non functional and very less in number.
Rana also said that university is collecting hefty amount per month as Library fees which is very high and not affordable by the students. He said that Rs 500 per month is collected as fees amounting to Rs 6000 per annum which is not justified as far as facilities are concerned.
He said that the university is itself creating differences between regular and distant mode students. He said that this will not be tolerated as the students in distant mode have to prove their worth; they too have to prepare for exams and other competitive exams. He warned that NSF activists would launch indefinite agitation,if the University authorities didn't fulfil their demand. NSF has also sought the intervention of Governor and urged him to look into the matter. Among those who were present in the protest included, Deepak Kumar, Pardeep Sharma, Pushpinder Singh, Nishant, Arun Manhas, Pawan Singh, and thers.
