UDHAMPUR, May 5: Amid the nationwide lockdown in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, a man hailing from Gool area in Ramban district, who was stuck in Jammu due to the travelling restrictions, finally decided to embark on the journey to his native place on foot. Zaffar Ahmad, who along with his wife and three children age 5 years, 3 years and four months, set off for a grueling journey on foot back home from Jammu on May 2. While narrating his tale of woes, Zaffar, who had reached Balli Nallah Morh about 10 Kms ahead of Udhampur town, informed that last month he had gone to Jammu along with his family to see one of his relatives admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu. “During our stay in Jammu, the lockdown was announced due to which no movement had been allowed. We were trapped and had no clue how to get back to our hometown,” said Zaffar. “I even tried hard to get a movement pass issued in my favour but all my efforts went in vain. We were running short of money in Jammu since our stay had prolonged. Finding no other way to reach our home, we decided to take up the journey on foot,” he added. Zaffar said that he had no idea of how difficult the journey would be for him and his family but that was the only way out for them. “We have covered 77 Kilometers so far in three days, we halted at different points along the highway and now reached here at Balli Nallah,” said Zaffar. After narrating the story of their trek towards their native place to Early Times, Zaffar and family moved ahead on way to Ramban. |
