JAMMU, Oct 6: At a time when the borders are on the boil, the premier hospital of Jammu province, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) is unprepared to tackle the emergency situation.
If sources are to be believed, last week the only oxygen plant in the hospital developed a technical snag following which only one line of oxygen supply is working in the ICU ward of the Emergency Block of the hospital.
"Though administration of the hospital is putting patients on oxygen cylinders to meet the requirement, in any emergency or disaster situation would take ugly turn", said a source.

JAMMU, Oct 6: The state cabinet had last year decided to start Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in Government Medical College & Hospital, Jammu to provide diagnostic facility to patients, but the incumbent Principal of GMC has reversed the cabinet decision and ordered closure of the facilities.
It is pertinent to mention here that though the neighboring states' governments are enthusiastically adopting the PPP mode to provide better health care, the only CT scan machine installed under the PPP in GMC&H, was sealed on August 31 over alleged irregularities and exorbitant charges taken from the patients by the diagnostic centre.

Baramulla, Oct 6: Army on Thursday gunned down seven terrorists in two encounters in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said.
They said three terrorists wearing army uniforms tried to enter into the Army's 30 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) camp in Langate area. The terrorists were spotted challenged by the alert soldiers following which terrorists opened fire which was retaliated triggering a gunfight. The encounter lasted for more than three hours and ended with killing of all the terrorists.

Srinagar, Oct 6: Unable to operate their vehicles due to the unrest in Kashmir, transporters today staged a protest in here against the separatist-sponsored strike which has crippled life in the Valley.
The transporters alleged that that they are unable to pay back their vehicle loans as their livelihood had been badly affected due to the continuous strikes, they said.
More than 4,500 commercial vehicles have been financed by various banks across Kashmir Valley this fiscal. These vehicles couldn't make any earning in last three months for paying back loans, officials said.
