Casual workers engaged in Qazigund PHE division in violation of norms | | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Anantnag, Feb 2: PHE division, Qazigund, is alleged to have engaged dozens of casual workers in violation of the set government norms. Official sources said the clerical staff of the division in nexus with some top officials engaged at least seventy five persons on need basis in the division in violation of the norms. "All these engagements were made during the last four years without any recommendations from the MLAs concerned. Each engagement was made allegedly for certain considerations," the sources added. They said that the clerks involved in the alleged fraud had been trying for the past few years to persuade the higher authorities of the division to "verify" the illegal appointments but none of them till October last had agreed to do so. Sources said the authorities verified the casual employees under the garb of then cabinet sub-committee decision. "The moment cabinet sub-committee approved regularization of 62000 casual workers, officers of the PHE division, Qazigund, in order to accommodate the blue-eyed causal employees in the existing list employed them for certain considerations." Sources revealed. Sources said the 75 employed casual workers were mostly the relatives of the officers and clerical staff of the PHE division. They said that the causal workers had never worked on ground for the department. "Over 90 casual workers are already working in the department for years now but they are being deprived of their wages. In contrary to this, officials are releasing the wages to the 75 workers," sources alleged. A former executive engineer of the PHE division, Qazigund, confirmed to Early Times that the casual workers were engaged under political pressure. "Till I was there, no penny was released in their favour," he said, wishing anonymity. However, Executive Engineer, PHE Division, Qazigund, Nazir Ahmad defended himself. "They were recommended by my predecessors. I only released wages in favour of them because they are working with the department for the last 10 years now," he said. "What is wrong in releasing their wages when we have enough funds?" he asked.
