JAMMU, Feb 2: SKUAST-Jammu scientists working under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, Dr. Pradeep K. Sharma today organized farmer's awareness programme here at village Sunjwan, Kathua under National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (AICRPAM-NICRA). Dr. Vivak M. Arya, project investigator welcomed the scientists/farmers and briefed them about the objectives of the programme. He highlighted the change in climate and its impact on agriculture and allied sectors. He emphasized to adopt conservation agriculture practices like no tillage, residue management and use of wood saw dust & vegetable wastes for better soil quality, moisture conservation & good quality yield. He advised to farmers to use the services of weather based agromet advisory provided by the project for agriculture operation. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Programme Coordinator KVK-Kathua was the chief guest. Dr. A.P. Singh (SMS, Agronomy), Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat (SMS, Extension), Dr. Rajeev Bharat (Jr. Scientist, Agronomy), Dr.Vijay Sharma (SMS, Fisheries) & Dr. Charu Sharma (Research Associate) gave important lectures and interacted with the farmers on their respective topics. Dr. Vikas Sharma (Asstt. Professor, Biochemistry) highlighted the use of medicinal and aromatic plants for livelihood security. Dr. Amrish Vaid spoke about the importance of such programmes and emphasized the farming community to adopt new techniques developed by the university. Later team of scientists visited the farmer's field to assess the impact of project interventions. Dilawar Singh, progressive farmer thanked the project investigator for organizing awareness programme on climate change for the betterment of the farming community.
