Kathua Aug 16: Continuing with its drive against tax evaders, excise department has thwarted another attempt of secretly smuggling willow clefts from Lakhanpur to New Delhi. A vehicle (JK03E/3624) reported at Toll Post Lakhanpur for assessment of the goods and as per the documents enclosed the vehicle was shown loaded with Apples consigned by Ghulam Nabi Dar and Sons, Noorpora, Awantipora, in Kashmir to M/s Seth and Company at B-177 in Azadpur Mandi of new Delhi vide challan No 107 of August 14, 2015. However, when the vehicle was put to physical check, it was found loaded with willow clefts. The instant attempt has been aimed at exporting willow clefts which is the raw material for manufacturing cricket bats. Truck driver Fayaz Ahmed Sheikh, son of Ghulam ahmad Sheikh of Chursoo, Awantipora, owner Nadeem Ahmad Sofi, son of Gul Mohammad Sofi of Marhama, Sangam, Bijbehara and accomplice Momammad Aaqib Sheikh, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh of Chursoo Awantipora, were apprehended by the active sleuths of Excise and duly assisted by the local police personnel. The vehicle alongwith the goods (willow clefts) has been seized by police. The excise team members, who effected the recovery, included Virender Singh Billoria, Shamsu Duha, Rohit Sharma, Inspectors G P.Singh, Swaran Singh, Harish Sharma, Sub Inspectors Ravi Kumar, Bhagwan Dass and excise guards Sohan Lal, Vinay Kumar, Ashwani Kumar and Nihal Singh. The team was fully assisted by police party led by Kuljeet Singh, DSP (DAR) and Anuroop Sharma, SHO of Lakhanpur police station. Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Excise Commisioioner, has lauded the role of officers/officials engaged in nabbing the evaders/smugglers and impressed upon the staff to perform their duties with same zeal and dedication. |
