Nitesh Sangral Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 16: An allegedly a computer Antivirus 'scam' has surfaced in Central University (CU) of Jammu, where computers' Antivirus were purchased only on papers but were not installed in the systems for reason well known to officials. Reliable Sources in the CU Jammu disclosed Early Times that Computer antivirus scandal has surfaced in the CU Jammu where more than 70 systems were setup in different libraries for the students of the University but for last two years, the computers were running without antivirus which is affecting the working as well as lives of computer systems. "Out of these, half the systems have been lying defunct because computers were running without antivirus," sources claimed adding that reaming computers systems are working with slow speed and the virus in the systems were damaging them. Moreover, when the students take up the matter, the officials download trial version of antivirus, which is for one month, installed in the systems, owing to which, the students are facing a lot of problems. Sources also allege more scandal in internet plan, which has been working in the University as the plan on papers is bigger plan while that actually made is the lower speed plan. Sources further claimed that repeated reminders had been sent to the concerned by students but nothing has been done till date. "It seems, they are waiting for damage to all the computers and then they will earn huge amount by purchasing new computers", said a student. If the allegations are to be believed, a scam worth more than Rs. 1.40 lakhs, in last two years, has surfaced in Central University of Jammu and either the purchased antivirus were sold out or were installed in the personnel computers and laptops of the some officials of the University. When contacted Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Prof. Devanand said, "the purchasing of antivirus for the computers, don't come under me, its work of Finance department of the University". Talking to Early Times OSD Finance HK Prashar said that he didn't have knowledge at present and he would tell after checking the records. |
