Jammu, Aug 16: Having been in centre stage of controversies, former Deputy Chief Minister and a stalwart considered in J&K Congress until recently, Tarachand is a politically isolated man lately. He first chose self imposed hibernation post Assembly election results and the developments that followed within the party pushed have pushed him to brink of complete isolation. He can neither bank upon the support of his erstwhile closest associates in the J&K Congress nor are the leaders within the so called Azad lobby by his side any more.
Veteran party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, one time God father of Tara Chand in the party too is learnt to have taken a sidestep after troubles erupted against him.
Sources said while elevation of GA Mir-for the reason of being his detractor did not augur well for Tarachand, he made things worse for himself by just not distancing from the party chief in the state but his complaints to high command over organizational reshuffle and other petty matters did more harm than any good to him. What has come as a setback to be him now is that those who once used to be very close within the party have quietly moved away from his being labelled as his associates or simply for the reason of being viewed as having proximity to him. This has sort of pushed Tara Chand to oblivion, rather in a state of political isolation contrary to a situation when he would call shots until the Assembly elections in the state, sources further said.
This isolation, sources said has peaked because the High command has given a serious message to rank and file in J&K Congress to fall in line in terms of maintaining discipline and respect for the party chief. The message in turn has emboldened the otherwise soft spoken GA Mir to the extent that he too went about openly castigating Tara Chand for what he sees as open revolt against him and his (Tara's acts) of creating indiscipline in a section of leaders.
Sources further said that Mir's open castigation against Tara is indicative of the fact that party is seriously watching the court proceedings in certain cases going on against him. Amidst the mess of controversies, the high command is adopting wait and watch strategy, sources said adding that it is awaiting directions from the court following which there is strong possibility of some action against him. For reasons clear not only Ghulam Nabi Azad whose right hand man once Tara Chand used to be, is not forthcoming in his support any more nor are the men, so to speak loyalists in his camp who would envy Tara Chand's 'power & proximity' to Azad until few months back.
