Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Red Fort Independence Day speech has disappointed all those who wanted his to say something about Pakistan, terrorism and the disturbing security scenario in the militant and separatist-infested Jammu & Kashmir. PM Modi spoke for almost 90 minutes and focused on issues which could help the "canny and dishonest" BJP do well in the coming elections in Bihar, West Bengal and UP.
He reflected on the evils of caste system, communalism and also patted his own back by claming certain achievements and claiming that no one could accuse his government of indulging in corrupt practices or shielding the corrupt. He conveniently ignored what (Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh Chohan, Vasundara Raje, Raman Singh and Pankja Munde episodes) resulted in the complete washout of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He only praised himself and his government and took an exception to those who take recourse to caste politics for electoral gains, notwithstanding the fact that the BJP has been following in the footsteps of the parties like the Congress, the TMC, the RJD, the JD(U), the SP, the BSP, the NCP and similar other fake secular outfits. What the BJP under his leadership and the leadership of Amit Shah has been doing to win the coming
assembly elections in Bihar.
PM Modi disappointed the nation in general and people of Jammu & Kashmir and our ex-servicemen in particular. The people of Jammu & Kashmir were expecting the PM to say something about the ongoing drama of death and destruction in Jammu & Kashmir, as also about the spurt in the terror-related activities in the state, but he failed them, as he didn't utter a word on this burning issue in the state. They had hoped that he would say something on the agenda of alliance which have created a state of anarchy in Jammu & Kashmir and emboldened separatists and militants in Kashmir to give a fillip to the anti-national activities, but he didn't utter a word. They were hoping that PM Modi would censure Pakistan for what it did to Jammu & Kashmir in the Valley, at Udhampur, at Hiranagar, at Samba, at Poonch, at Akhnoor, at RS Pura, at Abdulian, at Kana Chak, at Gurdaspur and so on, but nothing of this sort happened. They were hoping that PM Modi would express solidarity and share grief with the victims of militancy and cross-border terrorism as well as about those soldiers and civilians who were murdered in cold-blood by Pakistani butchers, but he failed them, as he thought it improper to say anything about them. They were hoping that PM Modi would share the grief and agony of those in Jammu region who had to migrate from the border belt to safer areas to save their lives, but he didn't say a word of sympathy for the displaced and terrorized population.
The fact of the matter is that he didn't utter a word on Pakistan, terrorism and the disturbed Jammu & Kashmir. It was no wonder then that retired Commanders like Major General Satvir Singh denounced both the Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA and said that the present dispensation of PM Modi, like the earlier dispensations, has no foreign policy worth appreciation. There is no difference between PM and Modi and his predecessors as far as the Indian foreign policy vis-à-vis Pakistan is concerned and that it was because of the New Delhi's muddled thinking that Pakistan had systematically promoted its anti-India agenda in Jammu & Kashmir. Besides, he, like retired Lt General Shankar Prasad, lambasted PM Modi for his vague stand on One Rank One Pension and said he completely disappointed the Indian war machine. Lt Gen Shankar Prasad even went to the extent of saying that "certain undesirable forces have surrounded what he called the "nervous, helpless and indecisive Prime Minister Modi".
