Woman, sarpanch among 6 killed in Pak firing on LoC | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 16: Six persons, including a woman, a sarpanch. A lecturer and a 12-year old 6th class student, were killed while several others survived with critical injuries in the heavy Pak shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri areas during the last 48 hours. The dead included Nusrat Begam, wife of Haleem Khan, Mohammad Amin, son of Mohammad Aziz, 12-year-old 6th class student Mohin Khan, son of Mohammad Kafeed, Mahammad Sheraz, son of Guldad, Abdul Rehman, lecturer Khadim Hussain and Karamat Ullha Khan, sarpanch of Bassoni. Since 2 pm on Saturday, 651 Mujahedeen Batallion from the Pak's L P Dorian, Mahal Dorian and Topa Gidran are targeting Indian forward posts in Balakote and Tarkundi sectors of Poonch and Rajouri districts, police sources said. In the Saturday firing, five persons were killed and 5 were injured critically. Seriously injured Mohammad Amin and Mohammad Ramiz, sons of Mohammad Aziz of Bassoni, Balakot, were airlifted while 4 persons were shifted to district hospital at Rajouri. One of the injured namely Abdul Rehman (lecturer) succumbed to his injuries on way to Rajouri while another was shifted to GMCH in Jammu and two were under treatment in Rajouri district hospital. In the wee hours of today morning, Pakistan again resorted to unprovoked firing with automatic guns and also fired 82 mm and 120 mm towards populated areas in Balakote and Sabzian sectors in Poonch district, resulting in the death of Nusarat Begam, wife of Haleem Khan of Behrote in Balakote sector after a mortar hit the kitchen of their house at about 6.30 am while she was preparing breakfast for the family. Mohammad Tariq, son of Kudratullha of Panjai was also hit by the mortar splinters and was treated at Brihani Gali health centre. Another civilian identified as Mohammad Akbar was injured critically when Pak resorted to heavy shelling in Sobzian sector of Poonch. Pertinently 641 and 649 Mujahedeen Battalions have been targeting forward Indian posts in this sector where lance Niak Kalu Roy was injured. Nazir Hussain, sarpanch of Lanjot, alleged that no official from the district administration visited them for help till late this evening. "In August last year we had asked the district administration/army to dig bunkers for the civilians so that they can take shelter inside these bunkers till the official help reach them. Had these bunkers been raised, six precious lives would have been saved," he added. Mohammad Riaz, a lecturer, also lambasted the district administration for not coming to their rescue. This time Pakistan army had targeted civil population, he added. "The body of the killed sarpanch kept lying on the road for about one hour despite the fact that army was at a distance of few meters from the spot," he alleged. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, BMO has been camping along with medical staff and ambulances at Balakot. He said that as the intensity of shelling was very high, it was not feasible for his team to visit the affected villages. They were camping at Balakot and providing medical help to those who were being brought to them, he added. "The leaves of all the medical employees have been cancelled with immediate effect and they have been directed to attend their duties so that medical help can be provided to the injured," the BMO said. Meanwhile, he suspended Mohammad Hanief, a pharmacist posted at Dhargloon PHC for negligence of duty during emergency on Saturday. After targeting civil population in Balakot sector in Poonch district for the last two days in which 6 persons were killed and about 8 were injured critically, Pakistan army today tareted Khorinar village under Manjakot police station jurisdiction in Rajouri district today. Several mortars fell in the village out of which one hit the house of one Mohammad Rashid, a teacher, resulting in injuries to three persons. All of them were shifted to district hospital at Rajouri from where two were referred to GMCH in Jammu.The injured have been identified as Parveen Akhtar, wife of Mohammad Sadiq, her son Mohammad Yassar and 10-year-old girl Rozia Kousar, daughter of Mohammad Azad. Parveen and Rozia were later referred to GMCH, Jammu. |
