Reckless driving will be dealt with iron hand: ARTO Samba | | | Neeraj Sharma Early Times Report Samba, Aug 16: In view of increasing accidents on Jammu-Kathua National Highway due to negligent driving by bus operators, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Samba has directed bus operators to follow the traffic rules while driving and observe the different safety measures. "It has been observed that there were fewer accidents on this national highway, when it was two lanes and now the rate of accidents especially by passenger buses plying between Jammu Kathua has increased manifold resulting in loss of human lives. The main cause of these accidents is rash reckless and negligent driving by the super fast bus operators on Jammu-Kathua National Highway," said Kuldeep Singh, ARTO, Samba. During this month within a twelve days about 3.3 lacs penalty imposed by ARTO Samba to traffic violators of norms including over speeding and rash driving. He said that instances have even seen and came into the notice that negligent driving by these superfast bus operators are causing fatal accidents and crushed human lives in a very brutal way. The bus drivers also seen racing with each other without even bothering they are carrying 40-50 (human lives), passengers. Necessary instructions have been given to the presidents of bus unions including the bus operators (3x2 and 2x2) Jammu-Kathua and asked to take immediate necessary steps at their end in the line of direction of the department. Traffic department will soon be going to conduct regular checking to keep recklessly and negligently driven buses on radar on this route and the those found driving their vehicle rashly, recklessly and negligently, the permit of the buses and driving licence of the drivers will be cancelled under the provision of the motor vehicle laws without any further notice and even prosecution and imprisonment would also be recommended, where it felt necessary under law and a criminal case shall be recommended under section 308 RPC to curve this menace of the fatal accidents to save the precious human lives, he added. We have asked bus operators to provide the details of the drivers of each vehicle along with vehicle registration number plying under control along with the copy of driving license of each driver for information of this office, he said. |
