1/5/2016 11:51:24 PM
Early Times Report
Udhampur, Jan 5: The Udhampur Sulabh Toilet Complexes constructed for public convenience virtually has become a 'public inconvenience' as these have become safe haven for the drinkers, addicts and other anti social elements.
According to some locals majority of Sulabh toilet Complexes established in Udhampur town for the convenience of public i.e. at Gole Market , Bus Stand, Sallian Talab ,MH Chowk etc are spotted with empty liquor pouches, used syringes and etc indicating the definite movement of the anti social elements and drug addicts.
Locals said, "As per order of Municipal Committee Udhampur these complexes were established for the use of public and with a view to keep the city clean.
Locals further alleged though the toilet complexes have now are fleecing visitors but also becoming a safe haven for the addicts in the city. The contractors of the complexes are over charging the visitors just to discourage them and are accommodating drug addicts who offer handsome amount for their visit, they alleged.
Some of locals said that use for one persons according to municipality department is below then Rs 2 but locals alleged the caretakers at these Sulabh Complexes charge over Rs 5 and more in pretext of having no change or any other.
However locals also accused the these toilet complexes emit atypical smell caused due to smoking and drinking and this is indicated by the empty pouches seen thrown here and there in the complex and it also indicates that the caretakers are having their hands in gloves with addicts and anti social elements turning public convenience complex into a 'safe haven for the addicts'.
Locals now are looking towards administration to act at earliest as till date the owners of public convenience complexes have failed to take action against them and don't complain against them in police station instead they probably take extra money from the addicts for uses of toilets.
