Govt fails to act against 300 absent docs | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad ET Report srinagar, Jan 5: The PDP-BJP Government has so far failed to dismiss or blacklist around 300 doctors who were not present at their place of postings form last so many years. Health Minister on record has said that the Government will dismiss the doctors who won't report to their duties. "The absent doctors will not only be dismissed from services but will also be blacklisted, rendering them ineligible for any job within the State and other country," Lal Singh had said. However sources told Early Times that the Government does not have any clue about around 300 doctors. Sources said that scores of doctors had left for higher studies without permission of the authorities while as hundreds of other doctors continue to remain absent from their duties and serve in private hospitals in the Gulf, Europe and the United States and United Kingdom and are holding on to their posts in Kashmir. "This is leading to a shortage of doctors which is becoming a major cause of ineffective healthcare in Kashmir particularly in the district hospitals," one of the official of Health Department said. As per the rules, the doctors are duty bound to serve in the State. It may be recalled that over two years back the then Medical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din had also decided to issue termination orders of about 300 doctors who remained absent from their duties for years together. Despite his announcement, no action was taken against these doctors later on by his Ministry. |
