Harish Chander Early Times Report jammu, Jan 5: A drug smuggler, from whose possession 2 grams of heroin was allegedly seized by police a few days back, is said to have been freed by police on the alleged intervention of a Minister. "He was freed after a Minister called up a police officer and asked him to drop the case against him," police sources alleged. On the Minister's direction, the case was dropped against the smuggler, sources said. He was taken into custody after 2 grams of heroin was recovered by police from his possession. His interrogation had led cops to the apprehension of two more drug smugglers. Since all the three turned out to be "influential", they were released, with police registering no case against them, sources alleged. By freeing the drug smuggler and his two associates, the concerned police officer showed his loyalty for the Minister, but he was likely to land in trouble as the matter had come to the notice of his seniors, sources said. The seniors called him to their office but he could not satisfy their queries, the sources added. The concerned police officer freed the drug smugglers at a time when IGP, Jammu, and his immediate subordinates had launched a drive against drugs across the region. |
