Developing Suchetgarh like Wagah a distant dream

jammu, Jan 5: On the one hand the PDP-BJP coalition Government is mulling to develop Suchetgarh border on the pattern of Wagah border, but on the other hand, the road connectivity which is necessary for the plan has not been given due focus by the State Government.
Besides the widening of road project which started years back is still incomplete, evoking resentment among locals of area.
Criticizing the tall claims of the Government to develop Jammu as a tourist destination, a businessman of border area Ravinder Gupta said that the already initiated projects to attract tourists, have been craving for attention of administration since long time and development of Suchetgarh border on lines of Wagah Border is one such project, which exposed the non serious approach of Government to develop tourism in State especially in Jammu region.
He further said that the widening of Satwari- Airport- RS Pura road was started by former coalition Government of PDP-Congress led by Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2006 and had fixed the date of completion in 2009 but due to lackadaisical approach of successive Governments or the executive agency, the widening of road is still a distant dream.
"The lackadaisical approach of the executive agency (PWD) can be gauged from this fact that after lapse of more than nine years, the PWD (Public works department) has so far has been succeeded to complete only one third portion of the road and remaining portion is still in limbo", said a shopkeeper of Miran Sahib Inderjeet Singh, adding that if same would be the pace of department, then the small road project would take almost fifty years to complete.
He further said that however, the guidelines of the Asian Bank-which is funding agency-directed all executive agencies and even Government and executive agencies, to ensure development of a green strip on both sides of the road before felling green trees but throwing guidelines into dustbin, the executive agency felled down all the eucalyptus trees mercilessly from Mira Sahib to Kollian.
"It seems that BJP-PDP agenda to promote tourism in Jammu is only restricted to papers and speeches but on ground level they are same as per previous Governments", he said, adding that there was a large army of unemployed youth and failure of Government to promote tourism sector has been worsening the scenario.
The difference in deed and speeches could be gauged from the fact that on one hand coalition Government has been boasting to take permission from Union Government as well as Pakistan to develop Suchetagarh border on lines of Wagah border but the project which was in the hands of State Government has been still craving for administrative attention.
