After insurance companies, CDRC fails floot-hit traders | | | Majid Nabi
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 13: After insurance companies refused to compensate the deluge hit traders of Kashmir, the Consumer Court here too could not help them to overcome the losses they suffered in 2014 floods. The flood victims whose cases have been pending with J&K State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (JK CDRC) Srinagar, have accused authorities of failing to depute new Judge after the outgoing Judge Retired Justice Bashir Ahmad Kirmani was transferred four months ago. They said more than two to three hundred cases pertaining to flood victims alone are pending in the court, which causes unnecessary delay to reconstruct their houses or start their businesses afresh. "The government has failed to depute Retired Judge to ensure settlement of cases without much delay after previous one was transferred four months back, we have been subjected unnecessary inconvenience as hundreds of cases lie pending in court and we continue to remain homeless or laid off," said Imtiyaz Ahmad a flood victim. He said many people among these flood victims either live in tents or live on rentals and are at the verge of starvation. The flood victims said although there are other member judges in the court but they do not have powers to pass judgments and can only hear the cases besides sending notices to the defaulters if required. They said although they filed complaint with the grievance cell in General Administration Department (GAD) Srinagar which had forwarded it to GAD Jammu but till date the grievance remains unaddressed. "Although we filed complaint with GAD but till date the new judge remains yet to be deputed here, it seems that no one pays heed towards our repeated pleas," said Ali Mohammad another flood victim. They said even pleas filed on account of adjustment made by bank against the loan given to unemployment scheme beneficiaries and appeals filed by companies after judgment was passed against their favour remain pending in the court. Meanwhile, the flood victims appealed government to depute Retired Judge at an earliest so that the victims are not made to wait any further. |
