Will PDP president ignore party opinion?

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 13: While the desperate-for-power and fundamentally "anti-Jammu" and anti-Hindu" BJP wants to serve under the Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP president, who is being considered the next chief minister of J&K, is in a fix. She is in a dilemma. The reason is that an overwhelming majority of PDP leaders, including MP Tariq Hameed Karra, and workers want her to tell the BJP that she will not enter into an alliance with the "saffron" outfit.
Reports from Srinagar suggest that "around 80 per cent" of the PDP leaders wanted to break all ties with the BJP, as the alliance with the rightwing party hurt the PDP more in the Valley and gave an opportunity to the NC to tarnish the PDP's image by repeatedly attacking it for "hobnobbing with the rightwing anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim BJP". The critics of the idea of the PDP forging an alliance with the BJP say that the "very poor attendance of Kashmiris during the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's funeral procession at his own home town was an indication of the fast-dwindling unpopularity of the BJP in the area which used to the party's stronghold in the Valley".
"This was visible during Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's funeral procession when not many people came to pay their last respects to one of the tallest leader of the state who always stood for democracy, nationalism and secularism. This came as an eye-opener for the PDP which mainly depends on votes from the Valley to win seats and form the government," a report from Srinagar quoting a PDP leader said.
The reports also suggested that its alliance with the Congress was the best option, as it would enable the party to restore its lost political space in Kashmir. "There are ample indications from the Congress that it is not averse to supporting the PDP and forming the government. The PDP has got the opportunity to get back its lost glory, which has diminished from the ground after allying with the BJP," the report quoting a PDP leader said.
Karra on Tuesday said so openly and warned that an alliance with the RSS-BJP will be suicidal. "A new combination, a new government can be formed given the situation today. My considered opinion is that she (Mehbooba) should open the ways of talking to Congress. Congress is a secular party. And all the secular forces should unite and rise above their political positions to form an alliance with PDP. It will be a secular government. PDP has lost its support by allying with a communal party," he told a Kashmir-based news agency.
Meanwhile, a PDP leader claimed that "The PDP has got feelers from the Congress party, which wants to offer unconditional support. But first they want Mehbooba to clear her stand on the government formation". He alswo echoed the Karra's views.
It will be interesting to see what decision Mehbooba finally takes as far as her alliance with the BJP is concerned. The PDP would surely suffer more losses in the Valley in case Mehbooba Mufti overlooked the party's sentiments. This is the general view in Kashmir.
