Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 13: Less than 18 km from winter capital, the residents of Marh panchayat of district Jammu are still bereft of basic amenities as more than two dozen families are still living without electricity and more than 35 families are without drinking water facilities and mocking at the claims of all around development. Sarpanch of Panchyat, Marh, Noor Mohmmad told Early Times that more than 25 families of village Dung of Marh Panchayat were living without electricity and 35 families of Ward No. 4 are still without water facilities.
"66 years after independence the lives of such families of village Dung of district Jammu have not changed", he said, adding that the woes of the residents are further multiplied due to absence of fair healthcare facilities and staff in schools. Ramesh Bhagat, another resident of village said that the village, having population of around 600 have been still struggling for power connection. "Our villagers are still living in stone age and tall claims of development are of no meaning to us", he said, adding that rather than power supply, even the villagers were also clamoring for schools, health, roads and other basic amenities. Many times have residents of Dung village visited PHE, PDD department for water, power supply but the officials concerned give lame excuses and tell that department have no funds to meet their needs. " Last year we also met MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and explained him the condition of our village. He assured us that all work including water facilities, power supply will be done in the next year plan but till date nothing has done in favour of poor villagers. The residents further said that they also appealed Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, who was holding the portfolio of Power Ministry, to do needful without any further delay but all in vain. They further appealed Governor NN Vohra to direct district administration to solve the problem of poor people of Marh Panchyat immediately.
