As stalemate persists both allies remain drawn apart | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 13: As the stalemate over formation of new Government continues, a game of one up manship has begun between the two erstwhile allies PDP and BJP with both now ready to buckle under each other's pressure. With PDP president reluctant to make her cards known, BJP is pointing fingers at what it calls 'avoidable' delay on part of the party leadership to take the call on Government formation. Persistence of stalemate is likely to push the situation towards dissolution of the Assembly paving way for fresh elections, is the fresh option in existing situation. Sources said as the air is not yet clear as to how long Mehbooba Mufti would take to respond to BJP's call for assuming the office, the delay is now getting on nerves within both the allies many leaders of PDP being interested to go with hitherto arrangement of alliance. Sources said while criticism is brewing from all quarters over delay, attributed even by political analysts and experts as nothing but bargaining and pressure mounting tactics on part of the PDP leadership. The blame for present imbroglio has to be shared by the BJP leadership too which if not in a bargaining mood, has conducted itself in a manner as to it is interested in working out in deal with the alliance partner, sources said. However, the critics are stretching disapproval more for PDP leadership in the present situation contending that while Mehbooba Mufti's grief and period of mourning for her father was well understood, in the event of vacuum in governance, inordinate delay was not justified as it has been seen in the history of the country as also in own state when the sitting rulers pass away, the heir is mandated to take over immediately in the larger interests of the subjects (masses). No amount of grief and shock have deterred the heir in situations like late Indira Gandhi's death or when her PM father Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru passed away, stated a senior Congress leader, while wondering over delay in formation of popular Government for which PDP and BJP have been given mandate by the people. This is a wrong precedence and has nowhere been seen across the world, he observed. The political analysts are attributing the existing political standoff and standstill kind of equation between PDP and BJP to one up manship where both are not ready to take a step forward. There is every possibility if the logjam persists, in order to address their respective constituencies, both allies may push for dissolution of the Assembly paving way for fresh elections, the experts maintain. |
