PDP authorises Mehbooba to take final call | | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP legislators and other leaders have authorized the party President Mehbooba Mufti to take the final call with respect to the formation of next government in the state. Sources told Early Times that PDP MLAs, leaders, workers and activists have authorized Mehbooba to take the final decision on the government formation. The party cadre believes that the party President would take a decision that is best in the interests of the people of the state and as such there is no reason for doubting the same. The latest development was also confirmed by chief spokesman of PDP Dr. Mehboob Beigh. In a text message to this correspondent, Dr. Beigh wrote that the party President would take the final decision with regard to the government formation. He said that no development has been taken so far with regard to government formation and the final decision would be taken by Mehbooba. "The party President is in no hurry to form the government in the state. She is in the process of receiving the feedback from various quarters before taking the final decision in this regard. The decision about the government formation would be taken after considering the various facets related to it," said sources. Sources said that Mehbooba is also keen to know the performance of the previous 10 month old PDP-Bharatiya Janta Party government led by her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. She wants to play it safe when it comes to arriving at a decision with regard to government formation in the state. It would be in place to mention here that Jammu & Kashmir is without a popular government since January 7 after Mufti passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at New Delhi. Efforts to woo Mehbooba to take oath have failed so far. "The party President wants to emulate her father and as such she is in no hurry to form the next government in the state. Since Mufti took more than two months before entering into an alliance with BJP, the party President also wants to tread a cautious path before taking a decision about the next government in the state," said sources. Sources said that PDP President before taking oath would ideally want to have a consensus with BJP over the issue of giving 'unbridled' powers to the deputy chief minister. There is a feeling among some of the PDP leaders that the creation of deputy chief minister post was un-necessary and there was no need of the same. "In the previous dispensation it was observed by some of the PDP leaders that deputy chief minister Dr. Nirmal Singh would transgress his authority and poked his nose on matters where it was not needed. The PDP leaders and workers believe that the post of deputy chief minister should be abolished and there should be no such position in case the PDP-BJP decided to form the next government in the state," said sources. The delay in the formation of the next government in the state is giving sleepless nights to the BJP leaders who are waiting for a call in this regard from PDP. The BJP leaders are under a 'fear' that PDP may align with Congress and some independent legislators and form the next government in the state. |
