Pay special attention on Basmati production in Bishnah: Bharadwaj | | | Early Times Report
BISHNAH, Feb 28: Senior Congress leader Mohinder Bhardwaj has said that the state government should pay special attention to increase the production of Basmati variety of rice in Bishnah and adjoining Ranbir Singh Pura belt. The area which was once the rice bowl of the state has lost this tag due to total apathy of the administration towards the rice growing farmers. Addressing a public meeting here on Sunday, he said that the decision of the government to develop a 'Basmati rice' village in R S Pura division is a good concept but it needs to be broad based by including adjoining Bishnah division also. A comprehensive strategy to ensure increased production of 'Basmati' in this region would go a long way in not only improving financial condition of the farmers but will also help in earning revenue for the state in view of the worldwide demand for the Basmati rice. Bhardwaj, who is also a senior advocate, said that he would soon meet Governor N N Vohra with a delegation of the people of Bishnah including farmers to seek his indulgence in this connection. He said that help of the agriculture scientists be sought by the government to further improve 'Basmati' varieties and at the same time ensure that production is also increased. He castigated the BJP, an important component of the then coalition government, for neglecting the genuine demands of the people of Bishnah area pertaining to improving basic amenities and overall development. He wondered that while the BJP leaders were desperate to again form the government with PDP, they have no time to address to the people's problem. |
