Government formation: Mehbooba wants 'peace with dignity' not chair

Anantnag, Feb 28: Maintaining suspense over government formation, Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehooba Mufti on Sunday said that she doesn't want to take over if she couldn't play role in peace building.
"When I couldn't play a role in peace building or can't benefit my nation what I have to do with that chair," Mehbooba said while addressing a gathering here in Dak Bangalow Khanabal after launching party's membership drive in this southern district she said that people of the state have laid down sacrifices for dignity, hence it was their responsibility to ensure peace with dignity. "I don't want to sit on a chair that can't guarantee dignity to my people, my workers and that can't benefit my nation as my father (Mufti Mohd Sayeed) often used to tell me that people here have suffered a lot and have laid down sacrifices for dignity," Mehbooba said.
Maintaining suspense over government formation, Mehooba said that she can't promise government formation or jobs to youngsters when state's peace is at stake.
"National conference isn't challenge for us. Our real challenge is those educated and literate youngsters who are taking up guns," she said, while referring to EDI Pampore encounter.
She said, "Our governments in last ten months ensured quality macadamization in the state but when situation isn't peaceful development will not serve the purpose. In recent gun battle at Pampore EDI building sustained damage of crores so peace is our first priority."
Mehbooba Mufti remembering her late father Mufti Mohd Sayeed broke down and said that she was being told by her late father to take care of party workers.
"My father told me that he couldn't do anything for you (workers) and gave me the responsibility. Workers are my real asset and party will take care of them," she added.
Recalling her late father's contribution to peace building, Mehbooba said that because of Mufti Sayeed's efforts LoC trade, Ceasefire came into existence while as Muzafferabad road was opened when BJP was ruling the country.
While taking credit of recent Nawaz-Modi meeting in Pakistan, Mehbooba said, "My father (Mufti Sayeed) felt happy when I told him that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Pakistan," she said, adding Dr Monmohan Singh former Prime Minister couldn't visit his birth place in Punjab Pakistan despite the fact he desired to visit in long ten years.
She said that her father formulated agenda of alliance with BJP to benefit people and to ensure peace and economic prosperity of the state.
"What concerns us most is that the agenda of alliance and vision of Mufti Sahab shouldn't fail," she said adding her father as always advocated cause of Kashmiris in New Delhi.
Mehbooba was accompanied by senior party leaders including General Secretery Nizam-u-Din Bhat, Rafi Ahmad Mir, Sartaj Ahmad Madni, MLA Kokernag Abdul Rehim Rather, MLA Dooru Syed Farooq Indrabi, Mehboob Beg, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para and others.
