'Many Psychiatrists, Anaesths occupy administrative positions' | Patients suffer due to their non availability | | Vikas Gupta Early Times Report jammu, Feb 28: The Health Department of the State, which is already grappling with the shortage of the doctors in peripheral, many Psychiatry and Anesthesia doctors are posted in administrative positions letting patients to suffer. Sources told Early Times that due to acute shortage of doctors in remote districts, the Government in 1996 had issued an order to get trained the doctors in the Psychiatry and Anesthesia stream at Government's expense so that shortage could be minimized. "The then Health Minister Mian Altaf Ahmad in his order to fill up the posts of these doctors in local remote areas of Poonch, Nowshera, Rajouri send them for Diploma course in Psychiatry and Anesthesia and Rs 10 lakh was spent on each doctor for the training which was incurred by the Government", they said. "But after their training in Psychiatry and Anesthesia stream all these doctors were posted on administrative positions in Health Department defeating the purpose of providing health care to the patients in remote areas," they alleged. Presently these Psychiatry and Anesthesia doctors are posted as DMOs, CMOs. However these doctors had been removed from their administrative positions few years ago but same by using their influence got administrative positions back, they accused. Many doctors are sent on training of public health management training but after completing their training, they are not doing their work. |
