Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to appease the party top brass crossed all the limits on Sunday by showering currency notes on the photograph of the late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who passed away on January 7 this year. The PDP leaders had organized a condolence meeting to pay tributes to the late leader at R S Pura. The function, organised by Bhushan Lal Dogra, vice-chairman of SC Advisory Board, was attended by senior PDP leaders including Ved Mahajan, ex-MP Trilok Singh Bajwa, Zulfikar Ali, Chattar Singh Sani, Mohammad Iqbal Kazmi, Rajinder Manhas, Raj Kumar Malhotra, Daman Bhasin and Rama Khajuria. Whenever tributes are paid to departed leaders, flowers are placed before their photographs as a mark of respect, but in this case currency notes were also showered on the Mufti's photo which surprised the gathering and irked many leaders. The act of showering notes on the Mufti's photograph was not liked by many in the gathering who felt that the best way to pay him tributes would have been to take a pledge on the occasion to carry forward his peace agenda. Some PDP leaders also delivered speeches on the occasion. Zulfikar said there was a need to take forward the unfinished dreams of the Mufti who wanted better ties with Pakistan and had dreamt of opening of more routes between India and Pakistan in the interest of border people. He said Centre should take up the matter with Pakistan and open Suchetgarh- Sialkote, Nowshera-Jahangir and Kargil-Askardu routes. He said there was no alternative to NC in the state before 1998 when late Mufti formed PDP and broke its monopoly. The basic idea behind forming PDP was to give people an alternative so that they 'taste the real fruit of democracy', he added. Dogra said the Mufti would always be remembered by R S Pura people who had a great love for him. The function was also addressed by Ved Mahajan, Bajwa, Chattar Sani, Kazmi, Manhas, Malhotra, Bhasin, Khajuria and district president F C Bhagata. |
