Early Times Report
Poonch, Feb 28: Spanning a population of around three thousand souls, people of Balakote Poonch district have been living a life of miseries. According to the residents, the village has no electricity, no drinking water facility and no proper road connectivity.
Alleging the district administration of improper approach towards the village which according to them has resulted in non-development of the area, the locals said that; "They (authorities) have failed us on every front, they said while adding that it is because of this step-motherly approach, that we are yet to see any development in our village."
"In the midst of technological revolution, with the world progressing on such a brisk pace, we have been deprived of basic necessities. Most population of this area still depends on the old type of lighting system where they use small chimneys, lanterns and wood to carry out their household work," they added.
No filtration plant in the area is for a long time now, locals said. In the absence of proper water supply, we literally are being forced to fetch the 'contaminated' water from a nearby rivulet. Owing to this chaos, water borne diseases which include diarrhoea, complacencies in abdominal organs, typhoid, and fever have broken out in the area.
Even the local Panchayat committee has failed to resolve the issues despite being approached on several occasions, locals alleged.
In a somewhat similar state is the road connectivity in the village, which again cuts a sorry figure on part of the administration.
"No proper macadamization has been done on the road which connects Balakote to other areas, a local zaheer Khan said while adding that the potholes at intermittent places make it difficult for the vehicles and locals alike to tread along the road."
Meanwhile the locals have appealed the concerned authorities to look into the issues for an immediate redressal.
