Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: Appointment of a former Professor of University of Jammu with alleged separatist ideological slant to the Swami Vivekananda Chair in the Central University of Jammu has amplified the ripples in the already turbulent waters in the universities across the country and questions are being raised on the intention of the Vice Chancellor CUJ behind approving such controversial appointment.
Rekha Choudhary, former Professor and Head department of Political Science, University of Jammu has been known for her conformity with the separatist sentiments in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and had come under sharp criticism for providing breeding space to separatist ideas by organizing seminars , workshops, projects and publications as a Professor and HoD. "She misused the Special Assistance Program (SAP) of the University Grants Commission to conduct manipulated surveys in a bid to vindicate the separatists and their venomous anti India ideology in the state" alleged a former Professor of JU. "It is unfortunate that such a professor has been appointed to Swami Vivekananda Chair, which is named after the biggest patriot of mother India" he added questioning the role and intent of the VC CUJ, Professor Ashok Aima.
It may be recalled that following SAP survey conducted under Prof. Rekha Choudhary, then HoD Political Science department; the University had to face a vehement protest by right wing organizations, who paraded into the campus protesting the survey. The survey had allegedly concluded that majority of people and J&K were in favour of a plebiscite, which is a prank of the separatist camp in J&K. Rekha Choudhary was removed from the headship of the department following an inquiry into the allegations of fostering separatist ideology in the garb of SAP survey.
Interestingly, Prof. Ashok Aima, presently the VC CUJ who approved the appointment Rekha Choudhary to Swami Vivekananda Chair was also in JU at that time and is familiar with the ideological slant of his former colleague. "Appointment of person like Rekha Choudhary to the Chair named after Swami Vivekanada is an insult to the great son of India and at a time when the environment of the universities is emotionally charged up in the backdrop of infamous JNU incident, CUJ must consider a patriot person with clean track record for appointment to this coveted Chair" said the former professor.
Expressing his reservation on the appointment of Rekha Choudhary, Prof. Varinder Gupta, spokesman of the state BJP said, "Such controversial people should not be appointed to these posts in the universities as they can misuse their positions. She is known for supporting a particular ideology in J&K which definitely is not in line with that of Swami Vivekananda".
