National champions Shivani, Aman felicitated

JAMMU, Feb 28 : Shivani Charak and Aman Dogra, two National Speed Climbing champions were felicitated at the 29th Anniversary and prize distribution function of Mountaineering Association of J&K held here today. Shivani, who won a gold medal in Speed Climbing and a bronze medal in bouldering competition in the 21st National Sport Climbing Championship, was presented cheque for Rs.15000 and Rs.5000 by the Association and IMF North Zone Committee respectively along with a glittering trophy. She was also given Rs 1000 by Secretary, Shivalik Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Club, Rakesh Goswami. Similarly, Aman Dogra received a total prize money of Rs.16000 and trophy. Both champion climbers were profusely cheered during the presentation ceremony. Chief Secretary J&K, B R Sharma was chief guest while an eminent scientist and writer Professor Lalit Magotra presided. Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmad Shah and Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee were the guests of honour. Divisional Sports Officer J&K State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma was special guest. Meanwhile, Asma Gul, Shilpa Charak, Mrityunjay Sharma and Ajay Deep, who also excelled in the national championship but narrowly missed medals, were also honoured with a cash prize of Rs 1000 each and a trophy. For excellence in the field of Mountaineering, Everester Ram Singh Slathia along with Sajad Hyder, Stanzin Youthog, Mohd. Saleemm, Manik Slathia and Sajad Hussain Bhat were honoured by the Association. The chief guest also honoured a number of schools with dedication awards for having promoted adventure activities among their students. The prominent schools in this category were Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, St. Xavier Convent Senior Secondary School, Barnai, Shangrilla Public School, Shiksha Niketan Group of Schools, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, National Academy, Udhampur and Amba Kids Home, Panthal, Reasi. Teachers of various schools along with members of the Association were also felicitated for their exemplary service towards promotion of trekking and sport climbing. Earlier, Joint Secretary of the Association, Shawetica Khajuria welcomed the guests and general secretary, Ram Khajuria highlighted the major achievements of the Association in his report. While Arti Sharma, Director of Sprawling Buds School superbly anchored the function, Sonam Sidharth presented vote of thanks. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Director, St. Xavier Convent Senior Secondary School, H R Padha, Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria, both Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Chinore; Vivek Chauhan, Administrator of Oriental Academy; Vishav Mohan Sharma, Principal National Academy High School, Udhampur.
