Jammu, Feb 28 : Jammu & Kashmir Geo-spatial Data Centre, Survey of India Jammu celebrated "National Science Day" at its premises at Nagrota. On this occasion exhibition and quiz contest were organized. More than hundred children accompanied by teachers from various schools attended the exhibition and participated in Quiz Contest. The exhibition was organized under the guidance of Pardeep Singh Director, J&K GDC Survey of India. He explained to the students about the working of Survey of India and its contribution towards Nation's building by mapping every inch of lndia's territory. The students from various schools thought visited and expressed their curiosity about the process of map making. A quiz contest was organized for the school children in which questions were asked related to mapping, geography, general science etc. and prizes were distributed among the winners by Director. During the exhibition, Maheshwar Singh & V S Chaudhary, Officer Surveyor of the Centre explained the different kinds of maps/digital maps prepared by Survey of India and modern instruments /technology being used for mapping. Surveyors displayed and explained the use of modern scientific instruments i.e. Global Positioning System (GPS), Digital Level, Total Station, Mobile Mapping System and use of various types of software used for the digitisation to the students. Among other who were present on the occasion included Vijay Kumar, Ram Pal Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar and Darshan Kumar. |
