Jakhani locals protest, demand shifting of 'garbage dumping' site | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Mar 1: Locals of Jakhani area today protested against Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) and demanded shifting of garbage dumping site at Jakhani along National Highway Udhampur. Raising slogans against the Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC), the protestors highlighted their demands and demanded shifting of garbage dumping site which is just at One km milestone in Jakhani on National Highway in Udhampur. Syed Peer Gulzar Shah Prsident Gujjar Bakkarwal Association said that dumping of garbage from Udhampur town in habituated area it is the same spot on the banks of river Tawi where filtration of water takes place and the same water is being supplied to Udhampur town. He also said how could officers at municipality order dumping garbage site along national highway and near PHE Filtration department. He said even the Pollution Control Department too have ignored the identification of site. Barun Sharma rued that many cases of jaundice, diarrhoea and other skin diseases are reported in the area in recent past allegedly pollution of water being supplied due to garbage dumping. Protestor also threatened the Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC) department for early action against the problem otherwise they will be forced to intensify their stir and even block the national highway. |
