Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 1: The Governor's administration has reportedly taken a serious note about daily wagers performing menial jobs at the bungalows of the officials across the State, sources told Early Times on Tuesday.
They said the Governor's administration has received number of complaints about class-IV employees working as domestic helps in the homes of top babus.
"These employees prior to the imposition of the Governor's rule in the State were working as domestic helps in the bungalows of the Ministers," they added.
Insiders said that Governor's administration has directed all the Head of Departments to ensure that services of class-IV employees working under them should be utilized for the official works only. "Besides class-IV officials many people are working at the homes of bureaucrats with a hope that their sahib's would get them employed in the Government sector," sources added.
They said to oblige their long serving aides many babus have gone out of way by appointing them as need based workers and daily wagers in different departments.
"Due to wrong policies of bureaucrats and the politicians an Army of daily wagers has been prepared during the past 25-years of turmoil and Government is finding it hard to pay them their wages," the source claimed.
Insiders said that Governor N N Vohra has pulled up the top officials and has asked them to prepare a detailed list of the daily wagers working in different departments so that a one time job policy is framed for them. "There is every possibility about Government imposing a blanket ban over employing anymore daily wagers in future," he added.
Sources said that PDP-BJP Ministers had promised jobs to their aides during their election campaign and after assuming power they employed many of them on temporary basis and promised them they would eventually get adjusted. However, the sudden fall of the Government due to the demise of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has rendered hundreds of people unemployed but a few lucky ones had shifted from the residences of their political masters to powerful babus.
Insiders revealed that Governor's administration has made it clear that State exchequer won't bear the extra burden nor would the State Government pay the salaries to the people who are serving in different bungalows across the State. "The Governor N N Vohra tightening his noose around top babus has led to many daily wagers being asked by their sahibs to leave or remain content with the salary they are getting for performing daily chores in their homes," the source added.
He said Governor's administration making top babus accountable has put them in a tight spot and they are trying their best to cling on to their chairs till the political dispensation is put at place.
