Villagers demand wages under MGNERGA, protest against BDO

Kathua, Mar 1: Dozens of villagers belonging to village Aleri, Panchayat Burha under Block Barnoti who worked under MGNERGA today came on road against Block Development Officer BDO Barnoti & Nawab Din Chairman of the Panchayat who was incharge of numbers of development work in the village. The protest was led by Mohinder Singh where women labor also expressed resentment and demanded wages for the work which was completed 2 years ago.
Bholi Devi, a villager who worked under MNREGS blamed on Chairman of the Panchayat and BDO Barnoti to squander their wages as no payment has been given to any of the laborer since inauguration of the construction work of boundaries & renovation of ponds. She said labourers approach to BDO and Chairman but they make several excuses for not releasing their wages. She said people who worked hard during the construction works had to travel BDO offices frequently for wages but nothing has been done till day that triggered protest demonstration.
Mohinder Singh, a social worker, appreciated MGNREGS scheme for the development and beautification of village life, provides job avenue to unemployed youths but unfortunately incharge of the works and concerned officials snatch the right of the labourers. He added that benefits don't reach at right hands due to greedy natured of middle men and officials concerned. Singh said Chairman has their job cards and who knows whether he has released their wages or not? He added that Union and State government launch several beneficial schemes but actual beneficiaries could not be get their rights. He sought eagle's eyes on such scheme by high officials to know its proper implementation. The protesters demanded their wages within days and inquiry against BDO Barnoti and Chairman Burha Panchayat for impediment in releasing wages of laborers. They threatened to hold protest at large scale unless BDO releases their wages.
