SVC slams SMC on violation of Srinagar Master Plan | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 1: The state vigilance commission (SVC), while taking a strong note of alleged violations of Srinagar Master Plan by a beneficiary in connivance with officials of different government departments, especially those of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), sought action taken report from its commissioner. The SVC directive came in a complaint lodged with it by the residents of Shah Anwar Colony, Hyderpora Bypass, Srinagar, regarding the construction of a multi-storey building opposite Classical Hospital in the locality in gross violation of the Srinagar Master Plan guidelines and in contravention of municipal laws and rules governing thereto in connivance with the officials of Pollution Control Board, Labour Department and SMC. Instead of initiating any action against the violator, these departments remained mute spectators. The violator is alleged to have illegally leased out the building to a private firm for running commercial activities in the residential area. The SMC report, which SVC has received, prima-facie revealed that the multi-storey building had been raised by the violator in contravention of Srinagar Master Plan and the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. No concrete measures seems to have been taken by the SMC authorities in order to stop the violator from constructing the building who had taken refuge of an order passed by The J&K Special Tribunal, showing the negligent and non-serious approach adopted by the officials of SMC in the matter amounting to acts of omission and commission by the concerned public servants. SVC, while ensuring that strict action was taken against the SMC officials in the matter, has directed SMC commissioner to submit action taken report against all those involved by the next date of hearing.
