Srinagar, Mar 7: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse separatists demonstrators who defied restrictions and took to the streets in protest against the killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) top militant in an encounter in Kulgam in south Kashmir. Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of HM militant Dawood Ahmad Sheikh who was later buried at his native village Qaimoh. Defying curfew-like restrictions, people from Qaimoh and adjoining villages gathered near the residence of Dawood to join the nimaz jinazah. Shouting separatists slogans, people carried the body of Dawood in a huge procession to the local graveyard where he was laid to rest. The funeral prayers of the deceased were offered in three shifts due to a huge rush of people. However, when people from Khudwani towards Quimoh, security forces stopped them from moving ahead, leading to clashes. Security forces resorted to lathicharge and later burst teargas shells to disperse the stone pelting demonstrators. Several persons were also injured in the clashes. |
