Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 7: With the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti dropping hints of going ahead with BJP, the former RAW chief AS Dulat, who served in J&K for years and also remained associated with the PMO for a long time, Sunday said that two months long delay in government formation needs to be explained.
"There are enough hints that PDP-BJP is ready to form the government once again but to me it is tough to understand why two months were wasted. I think it needs to be explained that who delayed the government formation from last almost two months," Dulat told Early Times over phone from New Delhi.
He said that so much of time should not have been taken by the two parties to form the government as they had already chalked out a road map earlier. "It is the responsibility of both the parties to form the government as they have the mandate of the people," he said.
He said People of Jammu and Kashmir casted their votes for a government of six years period. Unfortunately, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away. "But even in such circumstances, the new government is formed in a week's or 10 to 15 days' time because the roadmap or agenda or other things would have been already discussed between the alliance partners.
It is to mention here that the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Friday softened her stand by saying that she is not adamant on the precondition that the Centre first initiate confidence-building measures (CBMs) to create a congenial atmosphere for its functioning.
"Mein Ziddi nahin hoon. Agar mujhe laghta hai ki central government riyasat ki behtari ke liye kaam kar raha hai to mujhe sarkar bananey mein koi objection nahin hai (I am not adamant. If I feel that the Centre is working for the welfare of the state, I will have no objection in forming the government)," she told party workers after launching a membership drive.
Later she also met Governor N N Vohra and discussed various issues, including government formation.
