Teachers hold transfers unjustified, protest
3/7/2016 10:49:13 PM
Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, Mar 7: A day after CEO ordered the transfer of 240 teachers, several teachers today held a protest outside the office of deputy commissioner here and criticized the transfer list, terming it as "biased" and "unjustified".
They alleged that the transfers had been made at the behest of certain political leaders and demanded for their immediate role back. The transfers were ordered vide order No CEO/K/NG/2016/25462-66 of March 5, 2016.
The angry teachers, under the leadership of Teachers and Masters Association president Mehboob Qazi assembled outside DC office and held a protest raising slogans against CEO, Kishtwar, and termed the transfers as violation of transfer policy and urged up on the education secretary and DC, Kishtwar, to put the transfer list on hold and address the grievances of teachers.
Talking to Early Times, Qazi alleged that majority of transfers made in this order did not fulfil the criteria as set in transfer policy and added that corruption, nepotism and favouritism could easily been judged from scrutiny of the list. He said that those teachers who had no political approach had been sent from far flung to the remotest areas and added that even female teachers had been transferred to far flung areas.
"My female and handicapped teachers have been put to harassment through this transfer list," said Qazi and threatened that in case the concern of teachers was not addressed, they would intensify their protest in the coming days.
He said a female teacher whose ailing mother was alone at home after the death of her father had not been considered by the committee for her transfer which suggested that transfers were not made in accordance of the set procedure.
It is pertinent to mention here that reacting to the transfer list, various teachers' associations, PDP and NC too have criticized it and added that the aspirations of the teaching community who were eagerly waiting for home postings after serving in far-flung areas of the district had not been fulfilled. They alleged that the transfer list had been made in a hurry wherein a few teachers were posted at zero distance, while at the same time many teachers were posted from one far flung area to another.
