Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 7: Reacting strongly to the poor performance of Public Works Department to quicken the macadamization across Jammu division, Commissioner Secretary PWD reprimanded the tops engineers of the department for its negligent approach to incur the only 60% of funds notwithstanding the current of financial year closing this month.
While taking a detailed review of progress of macadamization work, it was divulged as against the total availability of Rs 106 crore only approx Rs 66 crore has been spent, thus achieving 60% target.
Sources told Early Times that it was revealed that implementation of macadamization work has been confined to only the urban areas of the districts discarding the rural and far flung areas where the condition of the roads deserves equal treatment thus spreading the impact of development in uniform manner.
"For the macadamization purpose, Rs 106 crore were approved by the government and same were given to department for carrying out work across the division, but department worked at snail’s pace and giving focus on the roads of cities and Commissioner Secretary questioned the senior engineers of department that despite the availability of funds why Rs 40 crore is still unspent when this financial year is at the verge of closure," they said.
If sources are to be believed, the Commissioner Secretary PWD has given the ultimatum of two weeks to the engineers to show the progress in macadamiztion work and warned if department failed to do so, strong action will be taken against the officers and asked for to produce the detail of work in next meeting which has been scheduled after one month.
Moreover the PWD Department, in its revised progamme has also shown dismal performance due to slow process in executing them and the projects need priority has not been carried out till date, they informed.
