After fresh snowfall on hills surrounding Srinagar, sun out today | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 7: After fresh snowfall on mountains surrounding Srinagar and upper reaches in the Kashmir valley resulting in drop in the minimum temperature, Sun was out today again. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir during the next four days, when the mercury will remain above normal. Though rain still eluded Srinagar, majority hills surrounding the city experienced fresh snowfall yesterday. As the sky was clear since this morning, snow on the hills was clearly visible from a distance, including Dal Lake, Tailbal and Hazratbal, resulting in drop in the mercury though it was still above normal. Against yesterdays 4.6 degrees Celsius minimum temperature, it was 1.8 degrees in the city, more than a notch below normal. He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 18 degrees and 3 degrees respectively in Srinagar during the next 24 hours. Leh in Ladakh region witnessed a drastic improvement in the night temperature as the mercury surged and settled at 4.1 degree, against minus 2.6 degree recorded yesterday. The coldest night temperature recorded in Leh was minus 16.4 degree on January 24. Meanwhile, there was a slight dip in the night temperature in the border town of Kargil. Against minus 3.2 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 3.8 degree. So far the coldest night temperature witnessed in this border town was minus 16.6 degree on January 24. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg also witnessed a dip in the night temperature. Against minus 1.2 degree, the night temperature was minus 2.5 degree. The coldest night witnessed in Gulmarg was when mercury dipped and settled at minus 12.5 degree on December 24. The spokesperson said Pahalgam, a world famous health resort, also witnessed a dip in the night temperature. Against 0.4 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 1.9 degree. He said after witnessing above normal temperature yesterday, Qazigund, also known as the gateway to the valley, recorded a dip in the night temperature. Against 4 degrees witnessed yesterday, it was 1 degree. Meanwhile, there was a dip in the night temperature in Kokernag, another health resort, while the mercury surged in Kupwara in north Kashmir. Against 5.5 degree recorded yesterday in Kokernag, it was 2.9 degree while Kupwara witnessed 3.3 degree night temperature, against 2.8 degree. |
