Operation ends in Kulgam, top HM militant killed, soldier injured | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 7: With the killing of a top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant last night, search operation in south Kashmir district of Kulgam has ended, official sources said today. A soldier was also injured and has been hospitalised. This was the second major encounter in south Kashmir after three HM militants were killed by security forces at Tral in south Kashmir Pulwama during the intervening night of March 2 and 3. As many as 21 militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and HM were killed this year so far. Sources said the operation has ended as there was no other militant present in the area. They said security forces and state police personnel launched a search operation at village Bichroo following a tip-off about the presence of militants. However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated and in the ensuing fierce encounter, a top HM militant, identified as Dawood Sheikh was killed. Dawood, a most wanted militant was involved in a number of militancy related incidents. |
