| Locals protest against Nicer Paper Mill & SPCB for allegedly 'polluting environment' | | |  Early Times Report
kathua, Mar 7: A large number of people including some victims of pollution generated by Nicer Paper Mill today staged a protest demonstration at village Maroli, Gobindsar of Kathua district. The locals led by Shashi Sharma, an RTI activist demanded early redresal of their demands.
The protesters alleged that Nicer Paper Mill is polluting the environment resulting mystifying death of live stocks in entire area and diseases to minor besides other sufferings wherein they pointed out working of State Pollution Control Board, (SPCB).
Addressing the protestors and media persons Shashi Sharma RTI activist said, "An ox and two sheep reportedly had died while minors are under grip of some unknown health ailment allegedly is making them physically disabled. He also alleged that the said mill is polluting Air, Noise and Water and is making life hard by compounding miseries of locals in the surrounding villages situated at the downstream. Speakers alleged that Mill is using private land for flowing the discharge of chemical waste which resultantly is polluting the crops and fertility of agricultural land.
"if we wash clothes in water of rivulet they turn blackish, we even feel hard to breathe but there is nobody to look after the suffering of poor people", alleged Manohar Lal Dogra, a local said who further added that people have approached District Administration and Pollution Control Board (PCB) Kathua but nothing is done till date.
The protesters appealed Governor to take action against Paper mill/SPCB for their callous approach to the ecology of the area which also is threatening fauna and flora of the area. They also demanded early shifting of said mill from village. |
