Udhampur, Mar 09: A strong resentment is brewing among people against Consumer affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department and district administration for delay in ration supply under NFSA guidelines and they termed National Food Security Act (NSFA) merely an anti people Act.
Locals also alleged that there is huge discrepancies in the ration cards being prepared in Udhampur under NAFSA scheme.
Residents of W-10 and some other wards today staged a protest demonstration to register their anguish over non-availability of food stock at the CAPD Depots from last two months. Protestors also termed the implementation of NFSA anti-people
Protestors namely Sardar Sumer Singh , Raj Kumar, Amit Kumar and Barat Choudhary said that they had submitted 1756 forms for issuance of new ration card in their ward but now concerned ration dealer said that he has received back only 716 cards and has no knowledge of other forms which sows some foul play. They demanded action against all officials responsible for missing of forms why people are left to suffer for their no fault.
Locals in various wards of Udhampur also alleged that due to prolonged delay in issuance of ration cards under NFSA majority of rationed population has been suffering adversely for last two months .The protesters said that they were earlier provided 35 kilograms of rice per month but now they are being allotted even lesser food grain and that too has not been supplied.
Pertinently before the implementation of NFSA, each family in J&K was entitled to 35 kg of food grains. Since only a small percentage of the population falls under AAY in J&K, more than 90% of the state's population is affected by the ceiling.
When contacted Director CAPD G S Chib briefly said that we have started to provide the ration and the system shall be streamlined as soon as the labour union of CAPD Department suspend their strike. Mr Chib also said that NFSA is the centre scheme and he is not authorized to comment over it.
