Kishtwar, Mar 9: The people of Mughal Maidan and its adjoining areas today held a strong protest at Dadpath and blocked Kishtwar-Chhatroo road for hours together demanding action against the officials allegedly involved in omitting the name of the BPL families from the list of beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
They added that the BPL families who had no source of income were shown as APL while APL families were enrolled as BPL, beside this protestors also demanded immediate release pending payment against material cost to the MGNREGA job card holders.
As per the details available with "Early Times" the protestors led by Sarpanch Puran Chand Thakur and President Dehati labour Union held strong protest against the government and administration,
Amid sloganeering in support of their demands, they termed the authorities at helms as "autocratic" by denying the ration to them under BPL quota through newly introduced NFSA. Protestors added that it is adversely affecting the normal life of the people living in this remote belt Mughal Maidan wherein 90% population is poor and living Below Poverty Line (BPL).
While addressing the gathering Sarpanch Puran Chand Thakur said that CAPD had taken two autocratic steps, first they had decided to provide only 5 kg ration per head under NFSA, there will be no ration for the children below 6 year age and secondly the department has brought BPL families under APL category without following any fixed criteria. He also said that since the MGNREGA had been implemented in this area, no material cost and skill labour had been paid to the common public or MGNREGA card holders.
Chand and others alleged that all plans are prepared in a closed room and the general public is unaware about the schemes. "Mostly in all the Panchayat of this block, the chairman and other members of the committee are the agents/workers of particular parties and the department was allotting them the works by setting aside all guidelines and prescribed norms of the said scheme" alleged Puran Chand.
The protestors called off the protest after the intervention of Sub Divisional Magistrate Chatroo Masood Ahmed Qazi who assured them that their issues and demands submitted by them in the form of the memorandum will be forwarded to higher authorities.
Besides Puran Chnad, among prominent who addressed the protest included Mohammad Ali Naik, Rajinder Kumar, Som Nath, Mohammad Iqbal, Atta Mohammad Dar, Prem Nath, Haji Abdul Hameed Tak,Abduland Rashid Kuchali
