UK snubs Pakistan's Kashmir rant | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 9: Indeed, it's a great news - great news because someone from United Kingdom chose Islamabad to snub Pakistan and its dubious approach towards the dialogue process with India. The case in point is the joint-press conference, which was addressed on Tuesday at the Pakistan's capital, Islamabad by Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif's Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond. Islamabad had not expected that the British Foreign Secretary would use the Pakistani soil in the presence of no less than Sartaz Aziz to snub Pakistan's oft-repeated Kashmir rant, but it actually happened much to the chagrin of the Pakistani political and military establishments. Addressing the joint press conference, Hammond told Pakistan that it should not set any pre-condition for dialogue with India and do all that it could to help the Government of India to bring the perpetrators of the January 2 Pathankot terror attack to justice. "I urge both Pakistan and India not to allow non-State actors and other pressure groups to derail the peace process. Settling the Kashmir issue should not be a precondition for starting the dialogue process," Hammond was quoted by Express News as saying in the presence of Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad. "I welcome Pakistan commitment to vigorously pursue Pathankot attack investigations and we hope that the country will make progress in the investigation," he was also quoted as saying. New Delhi had blamed Pakistan-based terror organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammad for the attack on the vital Pathankot airbase. By asking Islamabad to speed up the investigation into January 2 assault on India's Pathankot airbase, the British Foreign Secretary only endorsed the Indian view and it must be construed as a positive development and a development that would expose Pakistan in the eyes of the international community. Similarly, by saying that settling the Kashmir issue should not be a precondition for starting the dialogue process, Hammond appreciated the Indian view that discussion on the scourge of terror should be the priority and other issues could be taken later. Indian Foreign Secretary had only last week said that for India discussion on terror, and not bilateral talks between India and Pakistan, was the top priority and had also asked Pakistan to create conditions conducive for talks by punishing the masterminds of Pathankot terror attack. Hammond virtually echoes the same view, thus vindicating the stand of New Delhi. Hammond's snub must have shocked the Kashmiri separatists of all hues for obvious reasons. It is time for New Delhi to isolate Pakistan at international level by exposing the Pakistani evil machinations and telling the international community that J&K is a settled issue and the only issue which needs to be discussed between New Delhi and Pakistan is the political future of the J&K territories which have been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan since 1947. |
