3/9/2016 11:41:32 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 9: Authorities in university of Jammu are making all efforts to conceal information sought by the seekers under RTI Act, thereby defeating its very purpose.
The sources informed Early Times that most of the information seekers are denied information on frivolous pretexts pretending that the volume of information sought is so huge that it is not possible for the University authority to divulge.
A reply filed by the JU authority in response to an RTI query in the possession of Early Times dataed 3.3.2016 reads, "the information sought by you is lengthy and requires a lot of time to do the needful. In view of above you are requested to prioritize the information required to address your grievance". Similarly in another reply to the information seeker, the PIO has got riddance to provide requisite information saying, "inquiry reports pertaining to suspension of ABVP members and book scam of Central Library alongwith a copy of ATR of Disciplinary Committee and recommendations is a confidential in nature and cannot be disclosed in view of confidentiality and safety of the persons. The sources expressing astonishment stated that the university administration is more worried about the safety of the persons involved in book scam of Central Library besides sharing other routine information with the tacit intention to hide the factual position which is a gross disregard of RTI Act 2009.
The sources further castigating the posture being taken by the university administration said that in the present stage of computerization where all official information is readily available, it sounds ridiculous that the information is being furnished on terms and conditions suiting the university administration thus openly dishonoring the basic purpose of RTI Act. The sources informed that there are many other information seekers who are handled tactfully abdicating their official responsibility towards the provisions of RTI Act.
