Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 2: International fencer and Sub-Inspector with Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashid Ahmed has resigned as member of the J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC). It has been reliably learnt that Rashid has been made to resign as member of the autonomous sports body to pave way for a retired Chief Engineer of Kashmir to become member and subsequently take over as new Secretary of the J&K State Sports Council. In the meantime, sensing trouble for himself, the present Secretary Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmed Shah, who was choice of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the post, has already proceeded on leave. Outgoing member, Rashid Ahmed, who was otherwise doing a good job as an active member of the Sports Council, became a soft target of those manipulating things at the higher level. He could not resist the pressure and had been left with no other option but to listen to the dictates of his higher ups in the Department of Police. Presently at Srinagar, Rashid could not be reached by SAN for his comments. It was not for the first time that someone has resigned to accommodate choice of the 'system' in the Sports Council. Long back, then Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah had forced retired DIG, S S Wazir to resign as member so as to nominate his friend and former chairman of J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) Ramesh Mahajan to the sports body. |
