Townships for KPs 'put on hold' as separatists threaten stir | Govt resolves not to rake up such issues in future | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, June 2: The BJP-PDP government has resolved not to rake up the issue of township for migrant Pandits for now following threat of agitation from the separatists. Top sources revealed to Early Times that the BJP's senior leaders and the ministers in the present cabinet have been asked not to rake up any such issue that could endanger the government in the state and give free hand to the separatists to instigate people. If sources are to be believed, the plans for the Sainik Colony and more importantly providing accommodations to the migrant Kashmiri Pandits in Valley, have been shelved by the government, for it is apprehensive of any 2008 like agitation in which the PDP- Congress coalition broke down, compelling then chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to resign from his post. Sources said that high level meeting between the BJP and the PDP leaders was held here with discussions over the present political situation dominating this closed door meet. The issues ranging from NEET, Industrial Policy and providing separate townships to the migrant Kashmiri Pandits was discussed at threadbare. The BJP leaders, as per the sources, were told by the PDP that the task of the government would become more difficult if the contentious issues are raised in the state at present. Various separatist leaders and parties including Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik have publicly threatened that a mass agitation will be launched if the PDP-BJP government in the state goes ahead with the plan to set up separate clusters for displaced Kashmiri Pandits at various locations in the Valley and a Sainik colony on the outskirts of summer capital Srinagar. Sensing trouble, the BJP as well as the PDP resolved not to go ahead with any proposal that could endanger the present regime. Sources said that the issues and brewing tensions over these came up for discussion between Mufti and BJP national general secretary, Ram Madhav, here last week. Sources divulged that soon Mehbooba held the meeting the BJP's national general secretary Ram Madhav, latter held discussions with the state's BJP unit and asked its leaders not to raise any issue related to the rehabilitation of the KPs. "Recently, the leaders of both the parties met and the PDP in a more clear way told BJP that if any issue related to Sainik colony or about the return of the KPs is raised, the things would get more difficult in the future," sources said. It was informed that the BJP agreed with its coalition partner and assured it that the party will not raise any such issue that will endanger their chairs. Pertinently, the BJP during its election campaign had promised the KPs of dignified return. |
