Adulteration of diesel, Petrol with kerosene, increase pollution: Govt | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 2:The Jammu and Kashmir government today informed that the adulteration of diesel, petrol with kerosene oil increase pollution in the state. The government also said that stone crushers, brick kilns and cement plants also cause Air pollution. In a written reply to legislative Assembly on Thursday the government has accepted that the adulteration of diesel/petrol with kerosene oil increases vehicular pollution. However the government has claimed that the consumer affairs and public distribution department is taking necessary steps to control this problem. "Major causes of air pollution are vehicles, road construction and infrastructure development activities, mining, burning of garbage and industrial establishments like stone crushers, brick kilns and cement plants etc," under secretary to government department of forest, environment and ecology has informed. The government has also stated that the major causes of water pollution are discharge of untreated sewage from domestic and commercial hotel sources and discharge of industrial sewage from domestic and commercial hotel sources and discharge of industrial effluents into water bodies. "Dumping of solid waste also pollute water bodies. However JK SPCB monitors the activities and action under law is initiated against the violators" The government has also mentioned that action against vehicles which cause pollution beyond permissible limits is also taken by the Motor Vehicles and Traffic department. The government has informed that the directions have been issued to the Municipal authorities for establishment of establishment of Municipal solid Waste management facilities and Sewerage Treatment Plants. The government also said that the encroachment of water bodies is also a cause of pollution and the concerned departments are under obligation to remove the encroachments along the water bodies. The government has further said that the major pollution in River Tawi and Ranbir Canal are discharge of untreated sewage and dumping of solid waste. "The municipal corporation Jammu has been directed to take necessary steps for treatment of sewage and proper management of solid waste in accordance environmental laws,". |
