MLAs demand 150% pay hike, 54 legislators submit resolution to Speaker | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 2:Cutting across political lines, the Members Legislative Assembly (MLAs) today submitted a resolution to the Speaker State Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta demanding enhancement of salaries of all the legislators from existing Rs 80000 to Rs 2 lakh which is approximately 150% hike in salaries and similarly also demanded enhancement of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) from Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 5.00 crore. As per the details available with "Early Times", Congress MLA from Devsar Mohammad Amin Bhat while speaking on budget today said that the legislators are not satisfied with the salaries given to them and urged the Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Gurezi who was presiding the proceedings of the house when Congress MLA Mohammad Amin Bhut was speaking in the Assembly to issue directions to the state Finance Minister with regard to hike in Legislators salaries up to Rs 2 lakh per month and CDF from Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 5 crore added that ministers have kept Rs 5 lakhs/month at their discretion for utilization and said that legislators badly required hike in their salaries and enhancement in CDF. While refusing to issue the directions, Deputy Speaker said that issue of pay hike raised by the Congress MLA involves the financial implication, all the legislator created uproar and demanded directions from the chair for the same. BJP MLA and party State President Sat Sharma also stood in support of the Congress MLA and informed the Deputy Speaker that 54 MLAs barring Ministers and few MLAs who are present in the house today signed a resolution demanding pay hike up to Rs 2 Lakhs as well as increase in CDF. While reacting to the legislators concern, Deputy Speaker amid thumping of desks from legislators directed the FM to look into the demand added that Finance Minister will issue statement on this later or at the end of the session. Later BJP MLA Neelam Langeh also demanded enhancement of wages of Personal Assistance working with MLAs from existing Rs 6000 to Rs. 30000 added that Rs 6000 are not enough for them to feed their children and family. |
